The Transient Voltage Suppressor diode (also known as a TVS Diode) is a protection diode designed to protect electronic circuits against transients and overvoltage threats such as EFT (electrically fast transients) and ESD (electro-static discharge). TVS Diodes are silicon avalanche devices typically chosen for their fast response time (low clamping voltage), lower capacitance and low leakage current.

According to QYResearch, the global TVS Diodes market will grow 5.2 percent to $1.48 billion in 2016.

Littelfuse, Vishay and STMicroelectronics captured the top three revenue share spots in the TVS Diodes market in 2015. Littelfuse dominated with 11.91 percent revenue share, followed by Vishay with 11.37 percent revenue share and STMicroelectronics with 6.38 percent revenue share.

In the next five years, the global consumption of TVS Diodes will show upward tendency further, consumption is expected in 2021 will be 3346 (billion units). The average operating rate will remain at 88% to 89%.

The average price for a TVS dropped from 65.8 USD/K Unit in 2011 to 61.6 USD/M Unit in the 2015. Prices will drop again to 60.6 USD/M Unit in the 2016, a 1.69 percent overall decline for this year.

Despite the presence of competition problems, investors are still optimistic about this area, in future still more new investment will enter into the field. Technology and cost are two major problems.

Although sales of TVS Diodes brought a lot of opportunities, for the new entrants with only advantage in capital without sufficient support in technology and downstream channels, the research group did not recommend taking risk the enter this marke.
